Most people identify this spider only by the violin shape, or fiddle markings on the spider’s cephalothorax. The violin will typically be dark brown in color, while the spider itself is light tan to dark brown, yet consistent. Brown Recluse will have 3 sets of eyes, long thin smooth legs lacking spines, oval abdomen of solid color, with fine hairs. These spiders will be no more than ½ inch in length. Bites can cause severe tissue damage, resulting in large open sores called necrotic lesions.
